HI Michelle,

It is so awesome to hear your desire to stay true to Jesus no matter =
what.
The Lord sees your sacrifice and wants you to know that nothing is =
wasted
in God. Every tear, every stand.

Much of our Native religion are precursors of Christianity much like
Judism. In Judism we had tabernacle worship with alters and sacrifices
being made to God. Out of their religion we received the revelation of =
the
Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Everything from the =
Torah
and the Law pointed to the Messiah and His coming Kingdom. Native =
religion
and culture is also types and shadows of Jesus and His Kingdom.

The Sundance is an act of suffering and sacrifice to gain favor for our
families and tribe. The pain and encurance of the dancers take on the =
sin
and suffering of the people and by their shedding of blood and enduring
the pain they gain blessings. Now, we know that this is what Jesus did =
for
us on the cross. The center pole of the Sundance represents the cross, =
the
cords that bind the dancer represents the love of God that tied Jesus to
the cross. The blood that is shed represents the Blood of Jesus that was
shed on Calvary. The bone or inplement that pierces the dancers =
represents
the nails that were driven into our Lord, and there are many other types
and shadows in the Sundance.

I have a close friend who is a Cree Indian who was raised in the
traditional way. When he became a young man he was invited to =
participate
in the Sun Dance, this was a great honor and his family had suffered =
many
losses that year. His heart was  very heavy from the trauma and so he =
felt
it was his duty and it was important for him to make the sacrifice. =
During
the ceremony he was pierced and after many hours he was getting weak. As
he was dancing he looked at the center pole and he saw Jesus. He was =
taken
by His look and the Lord said to him, "What are you doing?" Bruce =
replied,
"I am suffering for my people, why do you ask Lord?" Jesus replied, "You
don't have to do this any more, I have already suffered for your =
people."
Since that time my friend has been serving the Lord and he has a =
powerful
testimony.

Your friend has a good heart, and is sincere in his desire to do =
something
good. I hope he can see and understand that Jesus has already done the =
Sun
Dance for all Native people once and for all. We don't have to lose our
culture to become Christian, but our culture is perfected in Christ. It =
is
okay to be Indian and a Jesus follower.
